1. Visa (if applicable) and Arrival

If you come from a non-EU country, please apply for your visa as soon as
you receive this Admission Letter. From our experience, the visa process
takes very long (up to eight weeks) and it is essential to get your visa
Application filed as early as possible.

2. Arrival and Orientation Period / Language Intensive Course

You can join our Orientation Period between September and October in every Year.
Only during this period, you can enroll for your study programme. Also, all administrative formalities like opening the bank account and the German health insurance, rental contract,
registration at the Foreigner’s Office etc. will be done during this time. We will
assist you with all of these things. Thus, you can have a relaxed start when
your actual lectures begin.

During the above-mentioned period, you will also have a Intensive
Language Course which you can join for free.

3. Health Insurance

After arrival, each student is required to take out a compulsory health
Insurance from a German insurance company for the entire time of
His/her studies in Hof. This compulsory health insurance will cost
you around 65 EUR per month and the money will be deducted monthly from
your German bank account. We will help you taking out the health insurance
Contract with a German company (e.g. AOK, TKK) so you don’t need to worry
about this.

Please note: the Local health insurance is a mandatory pre-requisite
for enrolment at any university. The University will NOT register you at our university
without a valid Localhealth insurance and we will NOT accept any
foreign health insurance (e.g. Bajaj Allianz and other travel insurances).
Furthermore, we very strongly recommend you to take out a contract for an
Accident and liability insurance.
4. Enrolment

After closing a contract with a German/European health insurance company, you will be
Enrolled as a regular student at University. Each student has to pay a tuition fee of € XXX plus an administrative fee of € XX per semester.

5. Accommodation

We try to arrange private accommodation for all Master students. In order to
make sure you get a room, please send back your Declaration of
Acceptance to us before the deadline and pay the tuition fees on time
(i.e. the payment must be in our account on July 15, 2010).

We will not book your accommodation unless we have received the payment for the
tuition fees.

All rooms are normally equipped with a bed, desk and wardrobe. Bathrooms
and kitchens are shared with the other students. Sheets, blankets and towels
are, however, are not included. Rent is around 200 – 250 EUR per month plus
a refundable security deposit. The rent will be deducted from your bank account.

6. Meet and Greet Service

The University takes care to pick you up on your arrival in
Germany (local airport or train station) and to accompany you to your flat. In order
to grant this "meet and greet" service, we recommend you to arrive in Europe on

Weekdays:
Monday – Thursday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

University cannot guarantee this service on weekends and for late arrival.
Nevertheless we will also try to find a solution in this case.

7. Financial Statement

For registering with the Foreigners’ Office in Germany, you need to provide at least
a financial statement saying that you have sufficient financial means to cover
Your costs of living here in Germany. It is up to the Foreigner’s Office to ask for
Further documents in single cases (e.g. a blocked account).

8. Residence permit

All international students have to register with the local Foreigners' Office
in order to receive their residence permit.

You need the following documents to register:
o your visa (if required)
o financial statement or proof of blocked account (see attachment)
o certificate of enrolment at Hof University of Applied Sciences
o proof of German health insurance
o 1 passport-sized photo

After your arrival in Europe, University fill in the necessary forms and go together to the
Foreigners' Office for the registration. You won't have to do this on your own.

9. German Course for Foreign Students during the semester

The Masters Program is taught completely in English. All international students are required to take German lessons which take place during the semester. These Language classes are
Mandatory and all international students are expected to participate
regularly.

Your decision to study in Europe provides you with the opportunity to get
Involved in a different cultural environment. To make your start in Europe
Easier and to prevent a major culture shock, we recommend you to read some
introductory material on Germany and its culture, for instance:

Germany Student Visa Requirements

The Consulate will check your application and if the basic requirements are met forward it to the competent German Immigration Office.



The German Immigration Offices will take a minimum of 4 weeks but might take 8 to 12 weeks for processing your visa application. Please note that the German Consulate General has no influence on the actual processing time. You will be informed once the visa can be issued.

Please note that the visa approval is valid for 3 months only. You, therefore, should arrange to have your visa stamped within this period of time. If you fail to meet this deadline, your visa will be rejected automatically and you will have to start the visa process all over.

v  Declaration on True and Complete Information form with signed and dated.

v  Cover Letter explaining the reason for your visa application. Please also submit a German translation of this documentation (Original).

v  Letter of Admission from a German University (A4 sized copy), signed with seal of the university.

v  University Certificates (Degree Certificates and Mark Sheets, Original and A4 sized copy)

v  Proof of knowledge of the English language (TOEFL/IELTS) Original and A4 sized copy). 

This document is mandatory for the visa process, even if it is not required by the German university.

Only exemptions possible:  Applicants for Ph.D. / Doctorate studies and Erasmus Munds Scholarship Holders

Proof of Financial Means, one of the following documents (Original and A4 sized copy):

v  Confirmation of Scholarship.
v  Formal sponsorship letter from sponsor living in Germany
v  Confirmation of a German blocked account  in the amount of  € 8040,- and with a monthly withdrawal allowance of  € 659.

vA4 sized copy of your passport.

v4 Photo Graphs.


IF APPLICABLE:

v  Proof of previously acquired German knowledge (mandatory, if class in Germany is taught – even partly - in German).

v  All required forms / declarations as well as this information sheet may be downloaded from the visa page of the German Consulate General’s homepage.

v  Please note that the German Consulate General reserves the right to ask for additional documents in single cases.

v  Besides, the submission of the above mentioned documents does not guarantee the issue of a visa. Submission of an incomplete set of documentation or refusal to attend the mandatory visa interview will lead to a reject of your visa.

v  Application. Even though a visa might have been granted, Border Control Authorities at the port of entry reserve the right to deny entry into the Federal Republic of Germany. Once a visa has been issued, the purpose of the trip may not be altered.
